because the Bible says so.
Ephesians 6:12 (NIV) For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Paul knew that the early Christians were going to meet with severe persecutions. However, he recognized that the fight is not just in the earthly realm, but also in the heavenly realm.
What other examples can we think of of people in the Bible who are victims of spiritual warfare?
What we think are natural events may have behind-the-scene implications in the heavenlies. For example, Job had no idea that his sufferings could be due to a wager between God and Satan.
Dangers of being ignorant.
Is it better to know we are in spiritual warfare or not to know? Why?
It is always better to know that we are in spiritual warfare. If we are ignorant of Satan’s schemes, he will outwit us. For example, if terrorists are preparing to attack our nation and we are totally unaware of it, how can we make preparations to defend ourselves? In the extreme, what would happen if another country is already attacking us and still we are not aware. Similarly, many people are undergoing Satan’s attacks everyday and not know it. Satan is therefore able to wreck much damage on that person’s life.
(2 Corinthians 2:11 NIV) in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
Paul tells us that we need to be aware of Satan’s schemes so that he cannot outwit us.
