No teaching in the Quran that Jesus will come back to earth the second time to die

No Quranic teaching on Jesus’ second coming

While there is no Quranic teaching on the second coming of Jesus to earth to die, Mahmoud Ayoub indicates that there is a tradition from Muhammad where the latter states that Jesus did not die but will come at the end to kill the false Messiah. Afterwards, Jesus will die, be buried, and be raised to life at the Day of Judgement. (Ayoub, The Quran and Its Interpreters, pp. 170-171)

Some Muslims appeal to this verse as teaching about the second coming of Christ.

Surah 43: 61 And (Jesus) shall be a Sign (for the coming of) the Hour (of Judgment): therefore have no doubt about the (Hour), but follow ye Me: this is a Straight Way.

Jesus will die just like John the Baptist

Some Muslims believe that verses about Jesus’ death refer to his physical death but believe that it will not happen during his first coming, but at a future time during Jesus’ second coming to earth. In other words, Jesus was raised up alive to God without first experiencing physical death.

Peace on me the day I was born, and the day I die, and the day I shall be raised alive! (Surah 19:32-34)

Parrinder’s remark is very apt at this point: ‘There is no futurity in the grammar of the quran to suggest a post-millenial death. The plain meaning seems to be his physical death at the end of his present human life on earth.’

One Muslim writer notes:

“No Muslim will shift the death of John (Yah Yah) to the future. All know that John died… since no one can now shift the death of John to the future, therefore no one can now shift the death of Jesus to the future. In fact there is not even one single passage throughout the Kuran showing that Jesus will return to die. The parallel statement with John who died, clearly shows that Jesus also died.” (A.H. Obaray, Miraculous Conception, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus (Nabi-Isa) as Taught in the Kuran [Kimberley, South Africa; Pub. By Author, 1962], p. 45)
