God is trinue. In other words, He is a three-in-one God.
The word “trinity” never appeared once in the Bible. But the concept is firmly established in the pages of the Bible. It teaches this. There is only one God, but this God exists in three persons : Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The Father is God, Jesus the Son is God, the Holy Spirit is God. But the Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit is not the Father.
The Bible emphasises that there is only one God.
Deuteronomy 6:4 (NIV) Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
The Father is God.
Romans 1:7 (NIV) To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Son is God.
Philippians 2:56 (NIV) Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
The Holy Spirit is God.
Acts 5:34 (NIV) Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied to men but to God.”
Yet the Bible teaches that the three persons of the trinity are distinct; they are not one and the same even though there is only one God.
John 14:16 (NIV) And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor (the Holy Spirit) to be with you forever
How can there be three persons and still one God. It is admitted that this concept of God is against logic. But are we to reject something as false just because it defies logic? Not when it concerns God, we don’t. God gives us certain laws of the universe by which we are bound but by which He Himself is not bound. If we reject the doctrine of trinity, then why not reject every miracle in the bible.
The bible teaches that God is incomprehensible to human minds.
Job 11:78 “Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? They are higher than the heavens what can you do ? They are deeper than the depths of the grave what can you know?
Only an infinite mind can fully understand an infinite God. Since we as humans have finite minds, it is natural to find some things that concern God beyond reason. If we can accept the fact that some works of God are beyond reason (what we call miracles), then is it difficult to accept the fact that the nature of God may also be beyond reason.
