Discussion: Who has already been water baptized? Why did you want to be water baptized?
Water baptism is a commandment from our Lord Jesus.
(Mat 28:19-20 NIV) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, {20} and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Water baptism is a means to publicly declare our faith in Jesus.
(Mark 1:4-5 NIV) And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. {5} The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
It is important that we are not ashamed of declaring our faith in Jesus publicly.
(Mat 10:32-33 NIV) “Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. {33} But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.
Discussion: What are the factors that are preventing you from being water baptized?
No need to wait for “spiritual maturity” before we are baptized
(Mark 1:4-5 NIV) And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. {5} The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
The people heard John the Baptist’s preaching, believed and came forward to be baptized. It was almost instantaneous. Some Christians feel that they need to know the Bible in depth before they get baptized. But this was not the practice for the early Christians. As long as we are a believer and understand the meaning of baptism, we should obey the Lord’s commandment to be baptized.
