How to pray Warfare Prayers

In this section, we examine how we can pray the Word of God into our situation to see a breakthrough.

“Is not My word like fire,” declares the Lord, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?”  (Jeremiah 23:29)

Pray for strength to go through the spiritual battle

EPH 3:16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being.

Luke 22:42-43  “Father,” he said, “if you will, take this cup of suffering away from me. Not my will, however, but your will be done.”  (43)  An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him.

Ask God to fight the battle for us

2CHR 20:12, 15, 17 [King Jehoshaphat prayed,] “O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” [Jehaziel] said: “Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what the Lord says to you: Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the Lord will be with you.'”

Contend, O Lord, with those who contend with me:  fight against those who fight against me.  Take up shield and buckler; arise and come to my aid.  Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me.

Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.”  May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plot my ruin be turned back in dismay.  May they be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the Lord driving them away; may their path be dark and slippery, with the angel of the Lord pursuing them.  Since they hid their net for me without cause and without cause dug a pit for me, may ruin overtake them by surprise —  may they fall into the pit, to their ruin. 

Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord and delight in his salvation.  My whole being will exclaim, “Who is like You, O Lord?  You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.”  (Psalm 35:1-10) NIV

Ask God for His hedge of protection

Psalms 71:1-4  LORD, I have come to you for protection; never let me be defeated!  (2)  Because you are righteous, help me and rescue me. Listen to me and save me!  (3)  Be my secure shelter and a strong fortress to protect me; you are my refuge and defense.  (4)  My God, rescue me from wicked people, from the power of cruel and evil people.

JOB 1:10 [Satan accused God,] “Have you not put a hedge around [Job] and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.”

Declare the victory of the Lord

ISA 54:17 “No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord.

Declare that God’s promises and will cannot fail

ISA 55:11 So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

Rebuke the devil in the name of God

ZECH 3:2 The Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord, who has chosen Jerusalem, rebuke you! Is not this man a burning stick snatched from the fire?”

MARK 9:25 When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the evil spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”

Bind the devil from working in your situation

Mar 3:27  “No one can break into a strong man’s house and take away his belongings unless he first ties up the strong man; then he can plunder his house.

Pray that the demons will flee from you

“The LORD shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they will come out against you one way and will flee before you seven ways.

Ask God to send His warring angels

MATT 26:53 [Jesus said,] “Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?”

Daniel 10:12-13  Then he said, “Daniel, don’t be afraid. God has heard your prayers ever since the first day you decided to humble yourself in order to gain understanding. I have come in answer to your prayer.  (13)  The angel prince of the kingdom of Persia opposed me for twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief angels, came to help me, because I had been left there alone in Persia.

Psalms 91:11-13  God will put his angels in charge of you to protect you wherever you go.  (12)  They will hold you up with their hands to keep you from hurting your feet on the stones.  (13)  You will trample down lions and snakes, fierce lions and poisonous snakes.

Spiritual warfare against the stronghold of the mind

2COR 10:3-5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
