Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness

(Mat 5:6 NIV)  Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

(Mat 6:33 NIV)  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

(Psa 145:19 NIV)  He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.

What is the righteous path?

We cannot know what the righteous path is if we do not spend time reading God’s word.

Ps 119:9-11 9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. (NIV)

(Eph 6:13-14 NIV)  Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. {14} Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,

We need to have the belt of truth in order to withstand the devil’s attacks. In other words, we have to know the truth of what is permissible and what is not. If we are not even sure about this, it opens us for easy attack by the devil. We see this in the very first temptation of mankind.

(Gen 3:1 NIV)  Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”

Satan tried to make Eve fall into sin by casting doubt about what is permissible and what is not.

Have a regular “righteousness” check

When we have a “righteousness” check, we search the areas of our life that is not pleasing to Him and confess those sins to Him regularly.

God points out our faults through the convicting power of the Holy Spirit as well as through His word.

Ask God to search our hearts for hidden sins that we may not be aware of.

Ps 139:2324 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (NIV)

Colossians 1:9-10 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. {10} And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
