Jehovah Witness - Paradise is on Earth

2 Peter 3:13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness.

Revelation 21:2-3 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. {3} And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

Psalms 37:9, 11, 29 9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace. 29 the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever.

Psalms 115:16 The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to man.

Psalms 115:16 The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to man.

Christian reply: The psalmist was actually telling of what good men can expect in their own lifetime--they would prosper on the earth.

John 10:16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

This "other sheep" is contrasted with the "little flock" in Lk 12:32.

Luke 12:32 "Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom.

Since only the little flock go to heaven, the other sheep will inherit the earth. Jws also believe that pre-Christian believers like Abraham, Isaac, etc do not go to heaven.

Hebrews 11:13-16 All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. {14} People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. {15} If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. {16} Instead, they were longing for a better country--a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them (Refer Heb 12:22).

Matthew 8:11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. {17} After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. {18} Therefore encourage each other with these words.

John 17:20 "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,

John 17:24 "Father , I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.

Revelation 7:9 After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.

Revelation 7:15 Therefore, "they are before the throne of God and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them.

Revelation 19:5-6 Then a voice came from the throne, saying: "Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both small and great!" {6} Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns.

These verses show that the great crowd is actually in heaven and not on earth.

2 Corinthians 12:2-4 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know--God knows. {3} And I know that this man--whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows-- {4} was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell.

Jws argue that the verse refers to a spiritual state among God's people during the time of harvest just prior to the end time. Nothing in the context hints that paradise is the people of God in the last days.

Luke 23:43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

Jws continue to believe that paradise is on earth while Jesus will be in heaven. Being with him is taken to mean raising him from the dead and caring for his needs. However, in other passages, they take the words "with me" literally.

Revelation 3:21 To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.

Revelation 14:1 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads.

Jws argue that the Bible teaches that Jesus went down to hades after He died. How can he be in paradise with the thief?

Matthew 12:40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Ephesians 4:9 (What does "he ascended" mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions ?

Also, Jesus told Mary after His resurrection that He has not yet ascended to the Father.

John 20:17 Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
